How to Download and Install the Volicon Observer Media Player
The Volicon Observer Media Player is a software that allows you to watch and record video streams from the Volicon Observer server. The Volicon Observer server is a system that monitors and logs broadcast channels for compliance, quality assurance, and content analysis. To use the Volicon Observer Media Player, you need to have Internet Explorer and access to the Volicon Observer server.
In this article, we will show you how to download and install the Volicon Observer Media Player on your PC.
Step 1: Launch Internet Explorer and enter the Volicon Observer server address
To connect to the Volicon Observer server for the first time, launch your Internet Explorer web browser and type in the IP address or domain name of the Volicon Observer server provided to you by your Volicon Administrator. For example, if you are connecting to the Volicon demo server, you would type http://observer.volicon.com in the address bar[^1^].
Step 2: Install the Volicon Observer Media Player
When you log into the Volicon Observer server for the first time using Internet Explorer, you will be prompted to install the Volicon Observer Media Player. You must have administrative rights on your PC (the ability to install software on your PC) for the initial install of the player software[^1^].
Follow these steps to install the Volicon Observer Media Player:
Accept the browser warning by clicking Run and then click Next. This will launch the Observer Media Player Setup Wizard[^1^].
Accept the terms of the License Agreement and click Next to continue[^1^].
Choose the folder where you want to install the Media Player. Unless Volicon Support has instructed you otherwise, accept the default folder and click Install[^1^].
Choose your optional settings. You can add a quick connect button to your Internet Explorer toolbar, enable a workaround for Intel video cards, and enable a setting that favors quantity over quality of video streams[^1^]. Make your choices and click Next.
Click Finish to exit the setup wizard[^1^].
Step 3: Log in to the Volicon Observer server and enjoy watching video streams
After installing the Volicon Observer Media Player, you can log in to the Volicon Observer server using your username and password. You will see the Observer Home Page with various menu and feature options. You can use the Player Window to control your video streams, create clips, export programs, view ratings, and more[^1^]. For more details on how to use the Volicon Observer Media Player, please refer to the Volicon 8.1 User Guide.
If you encounter any problems with downloading or installing the Volicon Observer Media Player, here are some tips that might help:
If a firewall blocks Volicon player download from a web server or you need to install players on multiple machines, you can download a cab file from the Observer web server: https://ObserverURLaddresss/observer.cab[^3^].
If an older version of Volicon media player has been installed on your PC, it will be removed automatically during the installation process[^1^].
If you receive a notification that there is a new version of the player available, follow the prompts and install the upgrade. You will be prompted to shut down Internet Explorer to perform the install[^1^]. Upgrading the player requires administrative rights on your PC, just like the initial installation.
