Road to Ironman: Find Meaning and Joy

A triathlon is no longer a race for me because where and when I finish no longer matters. Two things motivate me— my commitment and dedication to preparing for the race and putting my feet in the water to start the swim. The result is secondary.

The hardest part is setting a challenging and aspirational goal and not letting your doubts or the thousand excuses for why you can't do it stop you. Getting to race day is the biggest accomplishment. Your desire and determination got you here. Now, once the race starts to accomplish that thing you want so badly, all you need to do is put one foot in front of the other.

The easiest way to get to the finish line is to eliminate the pressure, expectations, and goals you set for the race. Stay in a moment. Everything else clutters your mind and makes it harder. It will free you to race with joy and pleasure.
